In brief: Improved harvest expected for Brazilian sugar cane

* The Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of Brazil’s agriculture ministry, has forecast that the 2022-2023 sugar cane harvest will produce 596.1m tonnes, representing a 1.9% increase on the 2021-2022 harvest. Conab predicts that sugar cane production will increase despite the land area dedicated to the harvest shrinking by 1.3% year-on-year, compensated by a 3.2% increase in productivity due to favourable climatic conditions.
