COLOMBIA: Petro warns of assassination plot

The left-wing frontrunner for the first round of Colombia’s presidential election on 29 May, Gustavo Petro (Pacto Histórico), cancelled a campaign trip on 3 May, claiming that he had received a tip-off about a planned assassination attempt. Calling off a two-day tour of the central departments of Risaralda, Quindío, and Caldas, Petro said that the alleged plot demonstrates the “political desperation” of his opponents.
