CHILE-REGION: Boric signals pro-active stance on climate with Escazú Treaty

Within a week of taking office on 11 March, Chile’s President Gabriel Boric signed onto the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation, and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean, more commonly known as the Escazú Agreement. This signals that Boric, who represents a new generation of leftist politicians for whom the climate crisis is a primary concern, plans to deliver on his promise to take environmental matters seriously and lead “the first ecological government of Chile”.
