* Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro has travelled to Guyana for discussions with President
Irfaan Ali to discuss cooperation on energy and trade. Bolsonaro’s visit to the Guyanese capital, Georgetown, was originally intended to take place in January following a
visit to Suriname, but was postponed due to the death of his mother. As he did during that January trip, Bolsonaro is expected to lobby for the involvement of Brazil’s state-controlled oil company, Petrobras, in the extraction of crude from major offshore oil deposits recently discovered off Guyana and Suriname. According to a statement from Brazil’s foreign ministry, Bolsonaro and Ali will discuss issues including
“trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, and cooperation in defence and security.”End of preview - This article contains approximately 114 words.
