BOLIVIA: Tourism operators rail against Covid restrictions
Workers from Bolivia’s tourism industry took to the streets in Sucre (capital of Chuquisaca) and La Paz on 25 April to protest against government measures they claim are limiting the recovery of their sector. At issue is a supreme decree implemented in August 2021 that requires foreign tourists to register and update their whereabouts with the department of immigration, including submitting information about every change of address they make during their stay. The same decree obliges travel agents, transport operators and accommodation providers to collect information about their guests and submit it to the department of immigration. As many travellers to Bolivia choose to roam around the country, this requirement has been blamed for driving tourists away from Bolivia and towards countries with less stringent requirements.
