In brief: Argentina’s domestic trade secretary resigns

* Argentina’s domestic trade secretary, Roberto Feletti, has announced his resignation after only seven months in the role. Feletti’s resignation comes days after the Argentine government led by President Alberto Fernández reorganised its economic team in an attempt to combat inflation, bringing the domestic trade secretary under the economy ministry. This meant Feletti was answerable to Economy Minister Martín Guzmán, who has been criticised by the Kirchnerista faction of Arentina’s ruling left-of-centre coalition Frente de Todos (FdT) for the accord sealed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in March. In his resignation letter, Feletti said that he thought his resignation was the “most reasonable and professional” course of action in order to allow Guzmán the freedom to select officials that agreed with the direction the government was taking. “I am sure that we share the final objective, that of making Argentina more prosperous,” wrote Feletti in his resignation letter. “It is because of discrepancies over the path outlined to achieve this and the economic tools selected that today leads me to this decision.” Yearly inflation stood at nearly 60% in April, according to Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec).
