MEXICO: Concerns raised over Title 42 continuation

The US federal order ‘Title 42’, which has allowed authorities to rapidly expel almost 2m migrants since March 2020, was due to expire on 23 May. However, days before it was set to end, a federal judge blocked the US government from lifting the measure, issuing a nationwide injunction. Title 42 expulsions will now continue while the litigation progresses, unless a higher court overturns the ruling, prompting renewed human rights concerns south of the border.
