EL SALVADOR: Alleged dealings with gangs back under scrutiny

With human rights concerns mounting over the crackdown ordered by the Nuevas Ideas (NI) government led by President Nayib Bukele in late March in response to gang violence [WR-22-13], a recent report by the local investigative media publication El Faro sheds new light on possible reasons for the surge in violence in the first place. It again casts doubt on the government’s official security policy, Plan Control Territorial (TCP).
