In brief: Bolivia tallies costs of road blockades in Santa Cruz

* Bolivia’s public works minister, Édgar Montaño, has said that roadblocks set up yesterday in Santa Cruz department have generated losses of at least B$1.6m (US$232,000), due to lost revenue for transport companies and from road tolls. Protesters in Cuatro Cañadas municipality have blocked a road linking Santa Cruz with Beni department, making various demands including improved healthcare, road improvements, and food aid. Montaño laid the blame for the protests with the opposition governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, calling on him to ensure that the basic needs of the residents are met.
