PERU: Labour and social conflict levels remain high

On 27 May the government announced a 60-day extension of the state of emergency in municipalities close to the giant Las Bambas copper mine, in Peru’s Apurímac region, after management and local indigenous communities failed to resolve differences which have forced a month-long shut-down in production since late April. Elsewhere in the country levels of social and labour conflictivity also remain high.
