In brief: Brazil’s vehicle production picks up in May

* Brazil’s national association of vehicle producers (Anfavea) has released figures showing a slight improvement to the automobile sector: vehicle production totalled 205,900 units in May, the first time this year that monthly production levels have exceeded the 200,000 mark. This is a 10.7% increase on production levels in April, and a 6.8% year-on-year increase – the first time in 2022 that monthly production exceeds that of the previous year. However, over the period January-May 2022, vehicle production levels are down 9.5% on what they were in January-May 2021, as the sector continues to battle the effects of ongoing semiconductor shortages and the war in Ukraine.
