ARGENTINA: Fernández hangs minister out to dry to placate CFK

After three months of estrangement, Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández and Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner finally took to the stage together on 3 June to mark the centenary of the state energy company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF). The sense of froideur was palpable. One cool comment by Vice President Fernández set in motion a series of events that led to President Fernández being left with little option but to fire his productive development minister, Matías Kulfas. The dismissal of Kulfas was a victory for the vice president as he was one of the main targets of the Kirchnerista wing of the ruling left-of-centre Frente de Todos (FdT) loyal to her.
