*Uruguay’s central bank (BCU) has released new figures showing that GDP grew 8.3% in the first quarter of 2022, compared with the same period of 2021. In quarterly terms, GDP was up 0.6%. According to the BCU, this increase reflects the partial recovery of the tourism sector and impact of several large investment projects. The productive sector saw growth in most sectors, led by year-on-year increases in transport, storage, information and communications (+14.4%), construction (+11.2%), health, education, real estate and other services (+10.7%) and professional activities (+10.0%). The BCU also noted that internal and external demand had increased, with the volume of exports up 23.5% and imports increasing 16.6% year-on-year.
