PANAMA: Charges thrown out in high-profile case

The recent decision by a local judge, Baloísa Marquínez Morán, to throw out charges against 40 people investigated for alleged money laundering in relation to the scandal involving Brazilian engineering firm Odebrecht, which broke in December 2016, has raised further doubts about the effectiveness of Panama’s institutions in tackling corruption.
