COLOMBIA: Progress in search for truth and reconciliation

The past 10 days have seen two major milestones in the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrilla group. On 21 June, the Farc’s former high command, or secretariat, attended a hearing of the transitional justice tribunal (JEP), where they accepted responsibility for the group’s kidnapping policy. One week later, the Truth Commission published its long-awaited report, which aims to provide a definitive account of human rights abuses by all sides during the internal conflict.
