CHILE: Transnational crime hops on the migration bandwagon

For months, Chilean police and prosecutors have been investigating the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal organisation whose growing presence in Chile has been a source of concern for the authorities. A suspected leader of the Tren de Aragua’s Chilean operations was arrested in March, while in June the investigative police (PDI) reported the dismantling of one of the organisation’s local factions in the north of the country, known as Los Gallegos.
