In brief: Unemployment falls in Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest employment figures, showing that unemployment stood at 9.8% in the rolling quarter ending in May. This represents a decrease of 1.4 percentage points on the preceding rolling quarter, and of 4.9 percentage points year-on-year. Underemployment also fell, standing at 21.8% – a decrease of 1.7 percentage points on the previous quarter and of 7.4 percentage points year-on-year. The informality rate stood at 40.1%, compared to 40.2% in the previous quarter and 39.5% in the same period last year.
