In brief: Remittances to Mexico rise

*Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has released new figures which show remittances to Mexico totalled US$5.17bn in May 2022, up 14.3% on May 2021. This brings the amount registered in the first five months of 2022 to US$22.41bn, up 16.8% on the same period in 2021. It brings the total for the past twelve months (June 2021-May 2022) to US$54.8bn, surpassing the total received in the twelve months to December 2021, which had been a record high. According to the same report, remittances sent from Mexico to other countries in May 2022 totalled U$85m, a 6.3% decrease year-on-year.
