In brief: Monthly job creation rebounds in Mexico

*Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released new figures which show that 60,221 jobs were created in the formal sector in June. This represents a recovery for job creation, following a loss of 2,855 jobs in May and the creation of only 5,490 new jobs in April. With June’s figures, job creation returns to near March levels, when 64,556 jobs were created, albeit remaining far below the 178,867 created in February. The figures bring the number of positions created in the last twelve months to 893,328, representing an annual increase of 4.4%. The economic sectors with the highest annual job growth are transport and communication (+12.6%), construction (+5.5%), and trade (+5.3%). As of 30 June, the IMSS has registered a total of 21.07m jobs in Mexico, of which 86.9% are permanent and 13.1% temporary.
