With less than four months until the 6 November 2022 municipal elections, President Daniel Ortega’s Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) has seized control of five mayoralties won in the previous (2017) municipal vote by the opposition party Ciudadanos por la Libertad (CxL), which was stripped of its legal status last year ahead of the November 2021 general election.
