HONDURAS: PN decries political persecution

Honduras’s now opposition Partido Nacional (PN), of former president Juan Orlando Hernández (PN, 2014-2022) who was extradited in April to the US on drug and weapons charges [WR-22-07], is encountering various difficulties following its departure from office in January after over a decade in government. Among other signs of strife, it recently complained of being the target of political persecution by the specialised unit against corruption networks (Uferco) at the attorney general’s office and leftist Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre) government led by President Xiomara Castro which recently marked six months in power.
