In brief: Mexico’s industrial production rises

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai) showing that industrial production rose 3.3% in May 2022 compared with May 2021. This has been driven by an increase in industrial manufacturing (6.1%) and the utilities sector (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) (4.3%). However, mining was down 1.8% year-on-year and construction was down 0.1%. In month-on-month terms, the Imai rose 0.1% in May, with utilities up 1.7% and manufacturing up by 0.2% while mining and construction posted declines of -0.7% and -0.6% respectively.
