In brief: Colombia’s trade deficit rises

*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has published its latest figures on trade which revealed that in May 2022, Colombia ran a trade deficit of US$1.73bn, up from US$1bn in April. According to the same figures, imports totalled US$6.28bn, down from US$$6.49bn in April, while Colombian exports amounted to US$4.55bn, down from US$5.46bn the previous month. Manufactured goods were the main import, totalling US$4.78bn and accounting for 70.3% of all imported goods. This was followed by fuel and extractive products (15.0%), agriculture, food and beverages (14.1%) and other sectors (0.5%). Colombia’s main export market is the US (which accounted for 29.9% of the total), followed by Panama (10.0%), Spain (5.7%), Turkey (5.0%) and Ecuador (3.4%).
