POLITICS: PRI primary gets off to a rocky start

The Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) formally started its primary to pick its presidential candidate on 10 October. There are three candidates, but the race is between Roberto Madrazo, the former party president, and Arturo Montiel, the former governor of the Estado de México. The third candidate is Everado Moreno. Unlike the other two he has not been a state governor: his highest post was deputy attorney general during President Zedillo's administration (1994 to 2000).
