In brief: Ecuador hails first legal cannabis exportation
*Ecuadorean cannabis company CannAndes has announced that it has carried out the country’s first legal cannabis export, sending flowers and extract to Switzerland for use in the pharmaceutical sector. Calling the shipment a “landmark moment” for the Ecuadorean cannabis sector, CannAndes said it had been made possible due to collaboration with the national police, with which it had developed an export protocol for the drug, and said the product had been inspected and verified by the national institute for agricultural research (INIAP). The production of cannabis for medicinal purposes and for the production of hemp was authorised in September 2019 following a reform to Ecuador’s criminal code.
