*Mexico’s foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, is travelling to Bolivia to discuss collaboration on lithium. On 5 August, Ebrard will see first-hand how Bolivia explores and exploits lithium during a visit to the plant of Bolivia’s state-owned lithium company, Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), based at the Salar de Uyuni salt flats, which is home to the world’s largest lithium brine deposits. “Bolivia is one of the countries with the biggest [lithium] reserves in the world and this is a dialogue that is important to us and interests us,” Ebrard told the press, adding that if the Latin American countries of Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Mexico joined forces, “we would have more than 65% of lithium in the world.” Ebrard is visiting Bolivia as part of an international work tour which saw him travel to Peru yesterday (3 August) where he met President Pedro Castillo and members of his cabinet. He will also travel to Colombia on 6 August to attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect Gustavo Petro, who takes office on 7 August and with whom Ebrard will also have a private meeting.
