In brief: Brazil hikes interest rates again

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has raised its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 13.75%, in its 12th consecutive rate hike. The announcement came as Brazil’s annual inflation reached 11.39% in July, while monthly inflation stood at 0.13%. A BCB statement highlighted the “adverse and volatile external environment,” and forecast that inflation at the end of 2022 would stand at 7.2%, before dropping to 5.3% in 2023 and 3.3% in 2024.
