In brief: Colombia’s coffee production and exports fall

*Colombia’s national federation of coffee producers (FNC) has reported a 22% fall in the country’s coffee production for the month of July. According to an FNC press release, 944,000 60kg bags of green coffee were produced in July 2022 compared with over 1.2m in the same month the previous year. According to the same press release, there was an overall 8% decline in coffee production for the period January-July 2022 compared with the same period the previous year, with coffee production reaching almost 6.4m 60kg bags, down from the little more than 6.9m 60kg bags. FNC attributes the downturn to “adverse weather conditions and reduced inventories”. The same figures show a drop in coffee exports as well, with 1m 60kg bags exported in July, down 14% on the almost 1.2m 60kg bags exported in July 2021. Meanwhile in the first seven months of 2022, a total of 6.88m 60kg bags were exported, down 1% on the 6.93m 60kg bags exported in the same period in 2021.
