BRAZIL: Lula’s mixed bag of economic policies

Brazil’s leftist former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2011), the frontrunner to win the country’s top job in the October elections, this week provided more guidelines on what his economic policies would look like. Some of them came straight out of the handbook of his Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT). Others suggest Lula and his economic advisors have reviewed policies that didn’t work so well the last time around.
