ECUADOR: Heightened scrutiny over gov’t refusal to release Glas

On 10 August, the United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Diego García-Sayán, said he was “closely following” the Ecuadorean government’s refusal to comply with a judicial ruling ordering the release of imprisoned former vice president Jorge Glas (2013-2017).
