In brief: Retail trade drops in Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the findings of its monthly retail survey, showing that retail sales declined by 1.4% in June compared to May. This was the second consecutive monthly decline, following a 0.4% drop in May, and was the worst result for the sector since December 2021, when retail sales contracted by 2.9%. Year-on-year, retail sales in June were down 0.3%.
