BRAZIL: Mixed economic signs for the election

The state of the economy going into an election often plays a significant role. The problem in Brazil’s case is that it is not entirely clear what the economy is doing and which of the two leading candidates - President Jair Bolsonaro or his main rival, former leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2011) - are likely to benefit more.
