In brief: BCIE bond dedicated to Taiwan’s support for Central America

* The Central American development bank (BCIE) has announced the issuance of a bond of at least US$600m to finance development projects in Central America, which is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the BCIE’s collaboration with Taiwan. Speaking to Spanish newswire EFE, the BCIE’s president, Dante Mossi, said that the “commemorative bond” was the “most significant investment” the BCIE had made to celebrate the anniversary. According to Mossi, the bond will finance projects in renewable energy, electric mobility, and provide support for small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs) in the agricultural sector in particular. Mossi also announced a US$10 million guarantee fund to finance small and medium-sized enterprises in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. This comes as the BCIE celebrates its 30th year of working with the Taiwanese government and the first anniversary of the inauguration of a BCIE office in Taiwan.
