In brief: Inflation slows in Venezuela

* Venezuela’s central bank (BCV) has released its latest consumer price index, reporting monthly inflation of 7.5% in July. This was down from 11.4% in June. The BCV did not publish a figure for year-on-year inflation. Recent inflation estimates from the Observatorio Venezolano de Finanzas (OVF), an independent economic think tank established by the Venezuelan opposition, have been higher; the OVF’s latest update showed monthly inflation of 14.5% in June, and annual inflation of 170%.
