In brief: Argentina and CAF announce new loans

*The Latin American Development Bank (CAF) and Argentina’s government led by President Alberto Fernández have announced the signing of six new loans worth US$740m, of which the first US$400m would be handed over this coming week, according to a tweet by Argentina’s new ‘super economy minister’ Sergio Massa. The loans will go on various initiatives including the government’s programme to combat hunger; road and sewage infrastructure projects; environmental initiatives; and efforts to improve access of agricultural small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to foreign markets. A government press release cites CAF executive president Sergio Díaz Granados as saying that the CAF was seeking to double its current portfolio of US$3.4bn worth of loans to Argentina over the next four years.
