In brief: GDP rises in Peru

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has announced that the country’s GDP grew by 3.3% in the second quarter of 2022, compared with the same period in 2021. This followed year-on-year growth of 3.8% in the first quarter of 2022. The latest growth was driven by a 4.6% year-on-year increase in private consumption generated by rising employment and incomes as Peru recovers from the economic impacts of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Gross fixed capital formation was also up 1.2% year-on-year, while state spending was down 2.8%.
