GUATEMALA: Another critical voice leaves the country

Guatemala’s human rights ombudsman Jordán Rodas, one of the few remaining figures associated with the fight against domestic corruption, has ended his five-year mandate and left the country. He becomes the latest respected figure to leave amid the continued backsliding in anti-corruption efforts and democracy under the government led by President Alejandro Giammattei which has most recently broadened its attack on judicial institutions to target the independent media [WR-22-32].
