In brief: Exports booming in Bolivia

* Bolivia’s President Luis Arce has announced that exports in the first six months of this year totalled US$8.27bn, which he said was “the highest figure registered in the last 30 years.” According to the national statistics institute (INE), exports from January-June were up 36% on the same period in 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of US$2.18bn. By sector, the largest increases in exports were in agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing (+113.0%), manufacturing (+38.9%), hydrocarbons (+36.8%), and minerals (+19.0%). The minister for foreign trade and integration, Benjamín Blanco, said that 2022 is lining up to be “the year of exports,” and predicted that Bolivia would sail past the government’s US$13bn export target for the year.
