In brief: Inflation climbs in Colombia

* Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has released the latest consumer price index, showing that monthly inflation in August stood at 1.02%, and year-on-year inflation at 10.84%. Both monthly and annual inflation were up compared to July, when Dane recorded monthly inflation of 0.81% and year-on-year inflation of 10.21%. The annual rate in August was significantly higher than the central bank’s target of 3% +/-1 for 2022. Monthly inflation was driven primarily by price increases for food and non-alcoholic drinks (+1.85%), ‘diverse goods and services’ (+1.54%), and furniture (+1.33%).
