In brief: Costa Rica’s annual inflation at ten-year high

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures for inflation which show that monthly inflation in August was 0.86%, driven by price increases for food & non-alcoholic beverages and transport. This brings annual inflation to 12.13% – the highest annual rate in a decade. The annual rate in July was 11.48%, up from 10.06% in June and 8.71% in May. A July report by Costa Rica’s central bank (BCCR) is forecasting that annual inflation will close 2022 at 8.6% and 2023 at 6.3%, after closing 2021 at 3.3%.
