In brief: Paraguay’s exports slow in first eight months of 2022
* Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has released new figures which show that the country’s exports in the first eight months of 2022 totalled US$9.35bn, a 1.6% drop on the same period in 2021. According to the same report, the reduction was explained by reduced exports of soybean, electricity, and rice. The main export markets are: China (which accounted for 29.9% of the total), Brazil (23.3%), and Argentina (8.4%). Meanwhile, imports in the first eight months of 2022 totalled US$9.94bn, up 25.5% on the same period in 2021. This leaves a trade deficit of US$586.4m, compared with a fiscal surplus of US$1.59bn in the same period in 2021. The same figures nonetheless showed that for the month of August alone, Paraguay’s exports were US$1.24bn, up 4.7% on the same month in 2021.
