BRAZIL: An island of deflation?

Something strange is happening to Brazilian prices. As the world frets over global energy scarcity, double-digit inflation rates, and a wide-ranging cost of living crisis, Brazil experienced deflation during the last two months: in July and August, prices went down. The country’s overall economic scenario is showing signs of improving, but this unusual deflation situation can in large part be put down to politics.
