In brief: Argentina’s monthly inflation slows slightly

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has published the latest consumer price index (IPC), which showed that monthly inflation reached 7.0% in August, bringing the annual rate to 78.5%. The monthly rate compares with 7.4% in July, when annual inflation was 71%. The steepest monthly increases were in clothing & footwear (+9.9%), various goods & services (+8.7%), and home equipment & maintenance (+8.4%). The latest monthly survey of market analysts (REM) by Argentina’s central bank (BCRA), published on 9 September, forecast that inflation will close 2022 at 95%, up 4.8 percentage points on their forecast the previous month.
