BOLIVIA: Coca leader arrested following arson attack

Five weeks of on-and-off clashes between rival factions of the coca union Asociacón Departamental de Productores de Coca de los Yungas de La Paz (Adepcoca) came to a head on 8 September, when members of the anti-government faction torched a ‘parallel’ coca market that they claimed the government was illegally allowing to operate. The faction’s leader, Freddy Machicado, was later arrested on suspicion of 15 offences.
