In brief: Honduras’s trade deficit widens

*Honduras’s central bank (BCH) has released new figures which show that the country’s exports in the first seven months of 2022 totalled US$3.93bn, up 25.6% on the same period in 2022, mainly due to dynamism in the manufacturing industry and agriculture activities. Imports in the first seven months however totalled US$8.76bn, up 22.4% on the same period in 2021. This leaves a trade deficit of US$4.8bn in the year to July 2022, up 19.8% on the same period in 2021. Honduras’s main trading partners are the US, which accounted for US$1.28bn of exports and US$2.96bn of imports, the European Union (US$1.07bn and US$694.7m respectively) and Central America (US$900.5m and US$1.84bn respectively).
