MEXICO: Peace proposal sparks backlash
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador dedicated his speech on Mexico’s 212th Independence Day on 16 September to peace. Speaking at celebrations in Mexico City (CDMX), López Obrador outlined a proposal to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He said the proposal, which Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will present before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), aimed to save lives and avoid suffering. However, it has proved controversial, prompting criticism in Ukraine and at home.
