MEXICO: Military arrested in Ayotzinapa case

The impact of a recent report into the 2014 Ayotzinapa massacre continues to be felt. The report, released by the Ayotzinapa truth and justice commission (Covaj) on 18 August, prompted a government official to acknowledge the direct participation of the army in the crime for the first time. Now, three members of the armed forces have been arrested in relation to the case, in which 43 students from the rural Ayotzinapa teacher training college in Iguala in the south-western state of Guerrero were murdered and disappeared.
