More signs of Cuban cooperation with US

The US and Cuban governments have confirmed that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will send US$2m to help the victims of Hurricane Ian which recently devastated Cuba. Despite pledges by US President Joe Biden to re-engage with Cuba after relations significantly deteriorated under his predecessor, Donald Trump (2017-2021), this was not forthcoming following the Cuban government’s crackdown on protesters in response to the protests in July 2021. However, the worsening economic and humanitarian situation in Cuba, exacerbated by the hurricane, which is driving migration northwards [WR-22-37], is forcing closer bilateral cooperation regardless.
