In brief: Brazil’s industrial production down in September

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures on the country’s industrial production, which declined 0.7% in September compared to August. The country’s industrial output increased 0.4% in year-on-year terms but posted an accumulated decline of 1.1% from January to September and a fall of 2.3% in the 12 months ending in September. By sector, the declines that had the most significative impact on the monthly index were: coke, petroleum & biofuels (-2.6%); metallurgy (-7.6%); and food products (-2.9%). The most significant monthly increases in production were in machinery & equipment (2.2%), and other extractive industries (1.8%).
