* The governments of Mexico and the US have announced that a new cooperation agreement on nuclear energy has entered into force. According to the US Department of State, this is the first bilateral agreement for peaceful nuclear cooperation between the US and Mexico and
“will enhance our cooperation on energy security and strengthen our diplomatic and economic relationship.” The agreement was first signed in 2018 but did not gain approval in Mexico’s senate until earlier this year. It will permit the transfer of nuclear material, equipment (including reactors), components, and information for nuclear research and nuclear power production between the two countries.
